Land Rover Series 2 88 from 1961

Land Rover Series 2 (1958-1961)

We have a Series 2 88 inch according to British Army specifications. A Rover mk.6 from the late Series 2 production of 1961. This car may have been used by the Foreign Office because the car was delivered to a Rover dealer in central London and has been driving in the Netherlands since 1973. No British army registration number is known. More Land Rovers were delivered to other parts of the British government to army specifications.

There are already many features on this Series 2 of the later Series 2a and the British army car Rover 8. This car was refurbished by us in 2020

History of the Land Rover series 2

The successor to the successful Land Rover Series I was the Series 2, which was built from 1958 to 1961. The Series 2 was available in 88-inch (2,200 mm) and 109-inch (2,800 mm) wheelbase (short wheel base SWB and long wheel base LWB). The round styling was from Rover's chief designer David Bache. This styling was later adopted in the Series 2a and Series 3.

In the Series 2 was the later known 2.25 liter petrol engine of 72 hp (54 kW). There was also a diesel variant of this engine, but it was only introduced with the Series 2a in 1961.
