Land Rover Series 3 Police Military Belgian army from 1975

Our 1975 Series 3 Police Soldier comes from the Belgian Army. This Land Rover is equipped with a 4 × 2 drive with a “limited slip differential”. Due to this differential, some of the terrain skills have been retained.

History of the Land Rover series 3

The Land Rover Series 3 was a further development of the Land Rover Series 2a and was built between 1971 and 1985. It is the most commonly built of the Series Land Rovers with approximately 440,000 units.

The most striking detail in the transition from Series 2a to Series 3 was the mounting of a plastic grill. In the beginning, some users complained about this to Land Rover's PR department because some people seemingly used the previous metal grill as barbecue iron in the landscape.

During Series 3 production, synchromesh was introduced on all gears, seat belts became standard and the instrument panel moved to the front of the driver. The 1,000,000th Land Rover rolled off the production line in 1976. In 1984 the Land Rover Series 3 was replaced by the Land Rover Defender.

The Belgian Army has had several hundred Land Rover Series 3 88 inch 4 x 2. These were equipped with a “limited slip differential”, which meant that the terrain capability was retained to a limited extent despite the 4 x 2 drive. These Land Rovers were mainly used as a car with driver for officers, military clergy and military police. These cars were delivered in 1974 and 1975 and were decommissioned in circa 1986.
